Alice Chidzero

Alice Chidzero, 63, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on September 7, 2026. She was born to Levi and Catherine Bwerinofa and was the beloved wife of Felix Chidzero for 13 years.

Alice was born on May 19, 1963, in Masvingo, Zimbabwe. She studied Education and began her career as a teacher before earning a Bible degree from Zion Bible College in Barrington, Rhode Island. Alice dedicated her life to education, ministry, and mentoring, touching the lives of many people in the United States and abroad. She created after-school programs, tutored, fostered, and volunteered her time providing educational and faith-based support to children and adults alike. She was especially known for teaching and serving others while wearing beautiful, elaborate traditional outfits that reflected her vibrant personality and love for her culture.

Alice was a member of AFM in Zimbabwe and Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia. She loved knitting, going for walks, reading, writing, and solving word puzzles. She published a memoir, When the Brook Runs Dry, in which she shared the harrowing yet incredible story of her life and the many challenges she overcame.

Alice is survived by her children, Simbarashe and Shekinah; her grandchildren, Avianna, Zenai, and Xavier; and many loving family members, friends, and members of the communities whose lives she touched.

She was predeceased by her parents, Levi and Catherine Bwerinofa; her husband, Felix; and her daughter, Vimbainashe.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made toward her repatriation fund to help honor her final wishes and return her home to be laid to rest in her village in Masvingo, Zimbabwe.

Alice will lie in repose on Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 2:00 pm- 7:00 pm. at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg.
