Audrey Smith Morgan

Audrey Smith Morgan, 58, of Monroe, Virginia, departed this life on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Lynchburg General Hospital, with her loving husband of 28 years, Wendell Morgan, by her side.

Audrey was born on August 9, 1968, and she was lovingly raised by her father, John Daniel Smith, and her late grandmother, Rhoda Smith. She was raised in McGaheysville, Virginia, and she graduated from Spotswood High School. After school, Audrey entered the workforce. She had a strong work ethic and was committed to doing her job well. Audrey was most recently employed by Hershey, where she worked for five years. Throughout the years, she also worked at the poultry plant, Massanutten Ski Resort, Little Debbie (McKee Foods), Flowers Bakery, and Frito-Lay. Her years of working also brought her many friendships that extended far beyond the workplace. She treasured the people she met along the way and maintained close bonds with many of them throughout the years. Audrey’s smile could brighten up any room and make people feel welcome. She loved sharing a good laugh, and many will remember the joy and laughter she brought. In her time away from work, she enjoyed spending time at the racetrack. She grew up at the racetrack alongside her father, where she developed a love for racing at an early age. Whether she was watching from the stands or lending a hand in the pit, she loved being a part of the action. She was also especially fond of the color purple, and enjoyed cheering on her favorite football team, the San Francisco 49ers.

In addition to her caring grandmother, Rhoda Smith, she is preceded in death by her grandfather, Lawrence Smith; her great-grandfather, Harry Moore; her aunt, Mary Stobb; her uncles, Ernest Smith and Lawrence E. Smith; her brother-in-law, Sherwin Morgan; her father-in-law, William Morgan, Sr.; and her mother-in-law, Ruby Morgan.

In addition to her devoted father, John Daniel Smith and her loving husband, Wendell Morgan, Audrey is survived by her aunts, Roberta Washington and Taze Clifford, and her uncle Richard Smith and his loving wife. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Antionette Eubanks, and her five brothers-in-law, Sherman Morgan (Patricia), William Morgan, Jr. (Amanda), David Morgan, Kenneth Morgan (Tara), and Charles Morgan (Valarie). She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved ones.

A celebration of Audrey's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Additionally, the family will be receiving visitors from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 1325 Gilmore Circle, Lynchburg.
