Listen to Obituary

Charles Radford Rose, Jr. (Dooley, Chuck, Rose Man, Daddy, Papa, and Big Brother) passed away peacefully at age 83, on September 13, 2026. Charles faced the challenges of a stroke with daring courage and grit. He was the son of the late Charles Rose Sr., and Alberta Jones Rose. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Rev. Elynor Dayne Rose, and together they built a life of love and giving.

Charles was born on June 18, 1943, in Madison Heights, Virginia. He worked a variety of jobs throughout his teenage years and learned that in order to be successful, you must work hard and sacrifice time with family in order to achieve goals. He was a proud graduate of Central High School where he played on the football team. After high school, Charles married the love of his life and started a family. Charles became a volunteer in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), an officially charted, non-profit civilian auxiliary of the U S. Air Force. Charles later studied Electronics Engineering at the Cleveland Institute of Technology, a program that fueled his lifelong passion for anything technical.

Charles retired from ITW Paktron after 35 years of service. While working at Paktron, he became an entrepreneur as the co-owner of Rose Performance Center with his brother Robert. They would work on cars for family and friends. Charles also owned a shooting range where friends would come and hang out and enjoy conversation while shooting targets. Charles founded Rose Excavating where he demonstrated his talents for performing artwork on land with his Heavy Excavating Equipment and Dump Truck.

Charles was a devoted servant of Scott Zion Baptist Church until his autonomy to attend was taken, and a devoted servant to his beloved community. Charles loved family gatherings at his home on Peaceful Lane. His shop was his happy place where he enjoyed doing hands-on projects. He enjoyed spending time with his side kick Mr. Bayes (deceased) and had many laughs. Charles loved the outdoors and being in the sunshine for long hours, never complaining about hot or cold weather. Charles looked forward to Spring, where he planted vegetables in his garden to share with the community. Charles’ ministry was to provide assistance to people who needed it most while expecting nothing in return. Charles wore the Ankh cross, as it symbolizes life, immortality, and eternal existence. Charles was the epitome of vitality, giving protection, and holding true to his heritage.

In addition to his parents, Charles is survived by his three children and their spouses: Leticia Rose Farrow (Stephen); Tamara R. Peterson (Ron); and Charles Rose III (Kimberly). Charles cherished his 8 grandchildren: Julian (Chrissy), Stephanie, Thyla (James), Ronald Jr., Charles, Dominique, Ashley, Jazmin, and 9 great grandchildren. He was committed to attend every event, celebrate accomplishments, and partake in tough conversations where needed. Charles enjoyed numerous friends in his community and never met a stranger. He was an exceptional listener, while offering help to those in need. Charles is survived by his loving sisters: Marion Booker, Daisy Rose, Carolyn Rose, and Joyce Booker (Michael), and his loving and caring sister-in laws: Annie Wayne, Bessie Sergeon, Carolyn Dayne Porter (Clyde), Vanessa Dayne (Kathy), and brother-in-law Gregory Dayne (Yvette). He has many beloved nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Charles was preceded in death by his precious sister Jean Alice, his dare devil brother Robert (Vernitta) and his Law-Enforcing brother Alfred.
