Jack Dempsey Franklin Jr., 80, of Monroe, Va., transitioned on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Lynchburg General Hospital to enter enteral life with Jesus Christ. He was born on May 11, 1945, in Amherst, Va., to the late Jack Dempsey Sr. and Elizabeth Carpenter Franklin.
Jack was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was baptized at an early age and became a member of Galilee Baptist Church and remained a member until his death. Jack had a deep love for classic cars, with a special fondness for his 1969 SS Chevelle. Jack also took great pride in his appearance, whether he was feeling his best or facing health challenges, he made sure he was always shaven. In true Jack fashion, he once removed a mirror from his beloved car just so he could examine his daily shave. Jack was a hard worker and devoted many years of labor at Lynchburg foundry, and his logging business.
In addition, to his parents Jack was preceded in death by one son, Mark Anthony Franklin; one sister, Brenda Diane Thomas; and one brother, Daniel Michael (Mickey) Franklin.
His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 60 years, Carrie Spinner Franklin; devoted son, Jack Dempsey Franklin, III of Monroe, Va.; two devoted daughters; Tracey Hamm (Cecil) of Gladstone, Va., who was also his caregiver, and Angela West (Michael), of Richmond, Va.; Eleven grandchildren, Frenjoy Fleshman, Adrian Cabell, Colya Jordan, Harry Cabell, Jr., Kristine Thomas, Malaysia Branham (Curtis), Jacquila Franklin, Marquis Franklin, Mariah Walkup (Jeremy), Michael West Jr., Da'jha Franklin and a devoted and dedicated grandson, Demonte Mcray; Eighteen great grandchildren, one daughter in law, Aleta Franklin; a devoted and loving sister, Crystal Franklin; three in laws, Pastor Annie Franklin, Ada McDaniel, and Florence Younger; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jack has completed his final journey and parked his rig for well-deserved rest. He is now on a new journey traveling freely over heavens highway.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights. A celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Galilee Baptist Church, Gladstone, VA at 1:00 p.m.
