James Barclay Andrews, II

James Barclay Andrews, II passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the age of 85. Born in Roanoke, Virginia, on November 25, 1939, Barclay made his home in Lynchburg for over 55 years, where he was a cherished member of the community.

Barclay graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Electrical Engineering and went on to earn a doctorate in Nuclear Engineering from MIT. Following his academic achievements, he served proudly in the U.S. Army for two years before beginning his long and distinguished career with Framatome.

An active and dedicated member of the Scottish Rite Masons, Barclay was honored with the 33rd degree in recognition of his exceptional service. He was also a longtime member of Boonsboro Country Club and a faithful member of Peakland United Methodist Church.

Barclay is survived by his devoted wife, Helen Munsey Andrews; his three children, James Barclay Andrews III, Donna Andrews Tepatti, and David Edward Andrews; and his six beloved grandchildren: Phillip Andrews, Kathryn Andrews, Connor Tepatti, Sarah Tepatti, Gunnar Andrews, and Zeke Andrews.

Barclay had a deep love for his family and found great joy in spending time outdoors with them. Whether playing golf, fishing, boating, flying model airplanes, or joining in on any sport his children or grandchildren were involved in, he brought warmth and enthusiasm to every moment.

A celebration of life will be held at Peakland United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 4, 2025. A private family graveside service will take place the following day.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barclay’s name to Peakland United Methodist Church or the Lynchburg Awareness Garden (P.O. Box 3231 Lynchburg, Virginia 24503).
