John W. Poindexter

John Willie Poindexter, Jr., of 507 Orchard Street in Lynchburg, VA, departed this life on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at the Forest Health and Rehab in Lynchburg. He was born in Bedford County on June 22, 1943 to the late John and Radar Robinson Poindexter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, James "Mug" Poindexter and a sister, Elsie P. Gates.

John attended Susie Gibson High School in Bedford. He was a member of Forest Level Baptist Church.

John had a "kind soul". He was affectionately known as "June" by his family and friends. A truck driver for nearly fifty years, he was known by his CB handle, Walking Stick. John began his career driving trucks at Markham Produce Company and ended his career with Lane Trucking.

John leaves to cherish his memory three sisters; Evelyn "BeBe" Read of Forest, VA, Shirley P. Jefferson of Forest, VA and Radar P. Anderson of Lynchburg, VA; three nephews, David Jefferson, Jr., Mack Anderson, Jr., and Efrain Anderson; one niece, Denise Gates; one great-nephew, Charlie Strange (Bethany); two great nieces, Keira Gates and Johnae Gates; one great- great nephew, Carter Strange; and one great-great niece Avery Strange; a devoted first cousin, Doris Rucker, who was like a sister, mother and his caregiver; special cousins, Aaron Austin, Patricia Alexander and other relatives and friends.

A special thanks is extended to Forest Health and Rehab and Centra Hospice.

No services will be held at his request.
