October 17, 1958 — June 17, 2025

John Arthur Sparks, age 66, of Monroe, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

John is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Joni and daughter Ashley (Matt) of South Carolina.

He was the son of the late Timothy and Betty Sparks of Covington, VA. In addition to his parents, his sister Carole Rice preceded him in death.

John Sparks is survived by his siblings: Elmer Sparks, Tim Sparks, Patty Kimberlin, Jenna Morgan (Jerry), Joey Sparks, all from Covington, Virginia and Betty Jo Goff (Tim) of Haymarket, Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John graduated from Alleghany High School, Covington, Virginia, Dabney Lancaster Community College, and University of Phoenix. Along with these degrees he had many certifications. He loved the construction field and traveled with great companies until settling down and establishing his own General Contracting Company operating for over 40 years. John was proud of his work ethics/honesty/workmanship.

John was also proud to be a card-carrying Native American choosing to travel the Red Road spiritually. (living with purpose, respect, and connection to the Creator). This spiritual journey also emphasizes life of integrity, compassion, and responsibility.

John loved music, he could tell you the band and who the lead singer was, watching the history channels to expand his knowledge, reading, and fishing on the lake where it was quiet and serene, back to nature. There was nothing better than spending time with family, sharing past and present stories and telling jokes.

John was a very special man who loved with all his heart.

A Native Journey ceremony will be held October 18, 2025, at 2:00 on Bear Mountain.
