Linda Frances Brown Hamlett, 81, of Evington, VA, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025, following a lengthy illness. She was the loving wife of the late Earnest “Ernie” Elton Hamlett for 65 years.
Born in Charlotte County, Virginia on August 27, 1943, she was the daughter of the late William Francis Brown and Mary Harris Brown. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church on Timberlake Road and retired as an office manager at AAA (Lynchburg, VA branch) for over 20+ years. Linda loved to travel, was an avid reader, and enjoyed her volunteer work at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. She also loved flowers, enjoyed gardening, watching the many different types of birds in her yard, and most of all the beach.
In addition to her husband and parents, Linda is preceded in death by a beloved son, Darrell Craig Hamlett, sister, Barbara Ann Pillow, and brother, William “Bill” Alexander Brown.
Linda is survived by two daughters, Debra H. Staton (Barry) of Rural Hall, NC and Amanda G. Hamlett of Evington, VA; one son, Rodney D. Hamlett of Evington, VA; six grandchildren, Craig R. Hamlett (Emilie) of Lynch Station, VA, Lacy H. Yeatts (Jacob) of Appomattox, VA, Kayla R. Mays (Eric) of Lynchburg, VA, Trevor K. Staton of Rural Hall, NC, Cheyenne M. Hamlett and Joshua D. Hamlett, both of Amherst, VA; one great grandchild, Ryleigh G. Mays of Lynchburg, VA; two special daughters-in-law, Kathy Hamlett of Forest, VA and Tammy Hamlett of Amherst, VA; a sister, Shirley B. Dudley of Lynchburg, VA; a sister-in-law, Gretchen Brown of Aspen, VA., and a number of other nieces, and nephews, family, and friends.
She was affectionately known as “Mom” and “Nana” to many and loved all dearly.
A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Louis Beckwith and Evangelist Roger Roller, will be held at Calvary Baptist Church (Timberlake Rd) on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 1:00 pm and burial service will be held on Wednesday, August, 20, 2025, 11:00 am at Staunton River Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookneal, VA.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation and special thank you to a host of people that cared for her as she bravely and fiercely fought many years of scleroderma, interstitial lung disease and various heart issues. Thank you to two special nieces, Rhonda H. Dickerson of Brookneal, VA, and Kim Epperson of Rustburg, VA, and a great-niece, Heather H. Mayberry of Rustburg, VA, whom all so lovingly cared for mom whether at home or in the hospital, visited frequently, prepared food, and was just always willing to help out in any way.
