Melvin Ray Hunter

Melvin Ray Hunter of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away on October 1, 2026. He was the son of the late Josephus Hunter and Dorthy Harvey Hunter. 

Melvin was born on September 15, 1941, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He attended Brookville High School, then pursued a career at General Electric where he worked until his retirement in 2000. 

He is survived by his two daughters, Lori Strickland Ramey (Casey) and Kristin Hunter Mays (Mike). He left behind 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren that were the light of his world; Nora Strickland (Danni, and Damian), Thomas Strickland (Danielle), Robert Strickland (Destiney), Hannah Ramey, Katie Mays (Cody, Colton and Kali) and Mackenzie Keesee (Cody). One sibling Teresa Hunter and niece Morgan Dalton. Along with other numerous nieces and nephews in his wife’s family. 

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Lynchburg, Va. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and golfing. He was a member of the Kingdom Builders where he enjoyed going on mission trips and building ramps for those that needed them.

 In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Youth Ministries for future mission trips.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Va. A period of visitation will take place before the service from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.
