Michael Dale Kersey Sr., lovingly known as “Mike” and “Pops,” went home to be with the Lord on September 21, 2025, at his home in Appomattox, Virginia, surrounded by family and love.
Mike was born and raised in Lynchburg, Virginia, and was a proud, hardworking man who valued faith, family, and a simple, country life. He was a hardworking man who dedicated many years to BRC Company, where he built strong relationships and earned the respect of everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Cleveland Kersey Sr. and Grace Catherine Jordan Kersey, his brother Kenneth Ray Kersey, his brother in law John Curtis Martin and nephew Sully Forbes
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 30 years, Loretta Faye Kersey, who was his steadfast partner and best friend through all of life’s ups and downs. Mike was a loving father to Alisha Maria Lester, Rebecca Nicole Harrup(Matt Harrup), and Mark Duane Lester (Joni Lester)
He was blessed with many grandchildren who were his pride and joy: Destiny Nicole Harris (Brendan Edwards), RyLeigh Elizabeth Smith, Wyatt Paul Goodman, Gracie Marie Goodman, Dylan Thomas Harrup, as well as a great-granddaughter, Taitum LeighAnne Edwards. He was preceded in death by his beloved great-grandson, Brayden Edwards.
Mike is also survived by his siblings: Catherine Zellene Kersey Martin (John Curtis), Douglas Cleveland Kersey Jr., Danny Lee Kersey Sr., and William David Kersey, along with his niece Amy Martin Forbes (Sully), nephew Danny “lil man” Withers and Danny “Bubba” Kersey Jr. and a bunch more of nieces and nephews
Mike was a proud member of Tree of Life Church, where his faith continued to grow. He found great joy in working the land and loved nothing more than operating his crane and John Deere tractors. His animals were dear to his heart, and he cared for them with the same love he gave his family.
Though life was not without its challenges, Mike always stayed true to himself and those he loved most. His family takes comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his loved ones who passed before him.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Tree of Life Church. Pallbearers will be Brendan Edwards, JD Keyes, Wyatt Goodman, Dylan Harrup, Matt Harrup, Mark Lester, and Robert Goodman.
Mike’s legacy will live on through the memories and love he shared with his family and friends.
