Reverend Carrington Howard Banks, Jr., affectionately known as “Tinky” to his family, friends, and those closest to him, peacefully entered into eternal rest and went home to be with the Lord on May 20, 2026, at the age of 75.
Born on December 31, 1950, in Lynchburg, Virginia, he was the beloved son of the late Carrington H. Banks, Sr. and Frances Pearl Turner Banks. At an early age, his family relocated to Newark, New Jersey, where he received his education through the Newark Public School System and attended Bardine Elementary School. He later returned to Madison Heights, Va and finished his education in Amherst County Schools.
Following high school, Carrington proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and served during the Vietnam Era, attaining the rank of Specialist Four (E-4). During his military service, he was assigned to Courtesy Patrol (CP) duties. He remained proud of his military service throughout his life and was a dedicated member of American Legion Post 16, Lynchburg, Va.
Faith was the foundation of Reverend Banks’ life. He attended Virginia Seminary and College and Eastern Theological Seminary, earning both a Bachelor’s Degree and a Degree in Divinity. Yet, when asked about his accomplishments, he often declared that his greatest degree was simply being “born again.”
His spiritual journey began at Scott Zion Baptist Church in Madison Heights, Virginia, continued at C Street Baptist Church, and ultimately led him to pastor Power of Prayer Ministries alongside his beloved wife, Minister Dorothy Banks. He was also a faithful member of Tree of Life Church, where he continued to worship and serve the Lord.
A hardworking entrepreneur, Carrington was the founder and owner of Banks Paint Contractor, faithfully serving the community for over 35 years. He was also employed by Griffin Pipe. In addition to his work and ministry, he enjoyed fishing, fellowshipping with family and friends, sharing stories from throughout his life, detailing and keeping his vehicles immaculate, and dressing sharply. He especially appreciated the loving care his wife took in helping him always look his best.
On May 16, he celebrated another year of marriage with the love of his life, Dorothy Elizabeth Goode Banks, with whom he shared 45 years of devoted marriage. Together they built a family founded upon faith, love, and perseverance.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Carrington Rondell “Chief” Banks; his baby brother, Leonard Wayne Banks; and his baby sister-in-law, Angel Lee Goode.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Dorothy Elizabeth Goode Banks of Lynchburg, Virginia; his daughter, Saranita “Meechie” Demetria Banks (Jay); and his son, Curtis Daniel Hunter Banks.
He was a proud grandfather to Ta’shaunda Miller (Tony), A.J. Clark (Maya), Drequan Jones, Demetrius Banks, Chaz Banks, Jermaine Hawkins, Taniyah Cotton (Ricky), Darius Banks, Camryn Banks, Amaya Preston, Jaiyana Austin, and Josiah Goode. He shared a special bond with his grandchildren . “George,” a nickname that reflected their unique and loving relationship.
He also leaves behind his cherished great-grandchildren, Hope, Avery, Skylar, Ava, Kai’lani, and Jah’mani, who brought him tremendous joy and pride.
As the eldest of six children, he leaves to mourn his passing his siblings, Edna Banks, Glenda Banks Ferguson (Randall Ferguson), Warren Banks, and Harold Banks (Diane Banks).
