George David Peters, born on September 23, 1937, at Flanagan Mountain, West Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 4, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Vera Peters, daughter, Karen Peters Hart, and great grandchild, Lucille Hansen.

Pastor Dave is survived by two daughters, Debbie Read (Brian) and Ginger Hahn (Rob); two sons, David Ray Peters (Cheryl) and Ricky Peters (Carolyn); and leaves behind a beautiful legacy for his 14 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren as well as one great-great-grand child.

Dave served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1959. He worked at the Lynchburg Foundry for many years before serving as Pastor at Bethel Baptist Church for 38 years, five years in the BEAMS Ministry, and over nine years at Cornerstone Baptist Church.

He loved spending time with his family, his church and playing with his many grandchildren over the years. He also loved hunting, fishing and studying the scripture. He will be missed by all who knew him. We are blessed that we will see him again in Heaven.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, at Bethel Baptist Church in Amherst, VA, followed by a celebration of Dave’s life. Burial will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Pisgah Scripture Printing Ministry for Bibles all over the world, including areas where scriptures have never before been published or available. Donations may also be sent directly to Cornerstone Baptist Church 53 Harpers Creek Ln, Tyro, VA 22976 which will forward them to the Bible ministry.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Madison Heights, Virginia, is assisting the family.
