Richard Michael Frey, 87, died May 7, 2026, in Bedford, Virginia, with his daughters by his side. He was born May 11, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Earle and Elizabeth Frey. Richard graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and worked as a computer technician for IBM, Texas Instruments, and Storage Technology Corporation. Later in life, he drove a school bus and served as a companion to older adults and people with disabilities.

Richard was known for his integrity, kindness, quick wit, humor, and love of music, but most importantly, Richard was a devoted follower of Christ. A founding member of The Community Church in Ashburn, Virginia, he served there faithfully for more than 30 years. Richard treasured his daughters and proudly embraced life as a “girl dad,” and he loved gathering with family. An avid cyclist, Richard completed countless century rides, especially the annual Sea Gull Century on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, which he cycled many times.

Richard is survived by his adoring daughters, Leslie (Buzz) Hintz of Woodbridge, VA; Chris O’Donnell of Flat Rock NC; Michele (Thad) Hartman of Bolivia, NC; and Lisa (Glenn) Seaman of Bedford, VA; and step-daughter Faith (Jeff) Rogers of Chiefland, FL; Grandchildren, Robert, Jimmy, Danielle, Brent, Shanon, Erin, Jessie, Shelby, Savannah, Taylor, Lindsay, and Brooke; Great-grandchildren, Joslyn, Easton, Alden, Everett, Camden, Michaela, Eden, and Mia; his beloved brother Paul Douglass “Doug” Frey, half siblings Christine Fetters, Jeri Frey, Jay Stutman, Kimberly Garcia, Brett Frey, Matthew Frey, Luke Frey, Julie Frey, and Kathryn MacKinnon, and many nieces and nephews.

Richard is preceded in death by parents Earle and Elizabeth Frey, wife Teresa Frey, first wife, cherished friend and mother of their “girls” Patsy Frey, daughter Sharon Wick, granddaughter Jennifer Wick, sister Betty Mooney, half-brother Mark Frey, and son-in-law Keith O’Donnell.
