Rick Parmele of Dallas, Texas passed away on September 11, 2026. He was born on January 26, 1938, in Chicago to Everett G and Ann Parmele. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Baylor University and University of Maryland Grad School. While at Maryland, he met wife Jacqueline and the two were married in 1964.
He worked for the Federal Government in IT support and later as a manager spending nearly a decade of his time abroad in tours in England and Germany. He was particularly pleased to have spent more years retired than employed. He lived a life in service to others through organizations like the Lions and service in his church in different capacities.
He was a voracious reader on many topics, religious scholar and lover of things outdoors, particularly birds. He was also an avid sports fan. Favorite teams included the Baylor Bears, Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys. With the Cubs he was thrilled with their 2016 World Series triumph, observing “any team can have an off century.” Following the Cowboys’ struggles in recent years he coined the term “Jerry Rot.” Please help us keep that alive.
He is survived by son Richard and grandkids Aidan, Henry, Julian and Madeleine. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother David, sister Betty and son David.
Friends and family will gather at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg, Va starting at noon on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The memorial service will begin at 1:00 pm and be officiated by Apostolics of Lynchburg Church Pastor Keith Jones. Following the service, we will return to the Parmele residence in Appomattox for repast.
In lieu of flowers, please provide donations to the Audubon Society.
