Sidney Johnson

Sidney R. Johnson, Jr., affectionately known as Pefair, of Coolwell, Virginia, moved to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025, at Guggenheimer Health and Rehab Center in Lynchburg, VA. He was born on August 4th, 1946, to Carrie Lee and Delaware Clark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Daisy and Sidney Johnson and brother Ronnie Johnson.

He is survived by three loving children, daughter Tameka C. Johnson of Atlanta, GA, son Michael Johnson (Stephanie) of Madison Heights, VA, and son Curtis J. Martin II (Mary) of Atlanta, GA; four sisters, Amanda (Joann) Ferguson, Eunice Johnson, Donna Johnson (Bobby), and Inez Hanks; one brother, Donnie Johnson (Wanda); five grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, and Micah Johnson; Curtis Justus Martin III and Sydney Martin; four aunts, Eva Johnson, Mary Johnson, Dorothy Johnson (Dot), and Daisy Jones (Pee Wee); and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind a beloved and devoted friend, Ms. Doris McCoy, whom the family is grateful to for her love and support over the past years.

Sidney was raised in First Baptist Church of Coolwell, where he was a Deacon at the time of his passing and held numerous positions within church organizations. He also enjoyed singing in the choirs at First Baptist Church, and, over the course of his life, for many groups including The Revelations and The Christian Family Singers. His hobbies included fishing and watching his favorite sports teams, The Washington Commanders, Atlanta Braves and UNC Chapel Hill Tarheels, passions that he passed down to his sons and daughter.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00P.M. Saturday, August 2, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Coolwell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Deacon Johnson will be open to public viewing Friday, August 1, 2025 from 9:00A.M - 7:00P.M. at Tharp Funeral Home Madison Heights Chapel.
