Tony Marvin Long, born July 25, 1958, in York, South Carolina, to the late John and Minnie Ruth Logan Long, peacefully departed this earthly life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Tony was educated in the York County School System and graduated from York Comprehensive High School in 1977. Shortly after graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served his country from July 1977 to September 1983.

Following his military service, Tony returned home and dedicated many years of hard work to Cannon Manufacturing. He also took pride in his skills in concrete work, always willing to lend his hands where they were needed.

Later in life, Tony relocated to Roseland, Virginia, where he became a faithful and devoted member of St. James Baptist Church. His commitment to his faith was evident through his service as a Deacon and Trustee, as well as his active participation in Sunday School. Tony’s presence in the church and community was one of strength, wisdom, and unwavering dedication.

Tony was known for his warm spirit and genuine love for people. He was a friend to everyone he met and never missed an opportunity to enjoy a good conversation—especially about hunting, fishing, or cooking up some good old Southern food. His love for family and fellowship was at the center of who he was.

In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronnie Long and Michael Barnett; his sisters, Ruth Long, Rev. Emma Vaughan, Brenda Long, and Johnnie Mae Greggs; his parents-in-law, Richard and Willie Ann Morgan; and his brother-in-law, Earl A. Morgan.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Nancy Morgan Long; his six children, Gerald Mitchel (Shanika) and Joshuah Henning Sr. (Yolanda), both of Rock Hill, South Carolina; Tony L. Sherer (Ebaney) and Toni L. Sherer (Antwan), both of Clover, South Carolina; Erica Hundley (Duane) of Lynchburg, Virginia; and Garland T. Clark (Emily) of Stuarts Draft, Virginia.

He is also survived by his loving siblings, Jessie Mae Long of York, South Carolina; Nesa Burris of High Point, North Carolina; and John Long (Yolanda) of Hickory Grove, South Carolina; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Tony’s life was a testament to faith, service, and love. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital for the compassionate care and support shown during Tony’s time of need.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at St. James Baptist Church, Roseland, VA.
